When does a child go to the dentist for the first time?

Go to the dentist from when the first tooth comes through, usually around the first year. Then you can get advice and your child gets used to the practice.

Is dental care for children reimbursed?

Yes, in the Netherlands basic insurance reimburses most dental care for children up to 18 years, such as check-ups, fillings and cleaning. Braces are usually not covered.

Why are baby teeth important?

They keep space free for the permanent teeth and help with chewing and speaking. Cavities in baby teeth can cause pain and infection and therefore must be treated too.

How do you brush a child's teeth?

Twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, in an amount suitable for the age. Help children until about 8 to 10 years. Limit snacks and sugary drinks.

What to do if a tooth falls out after a fall?

Do not put a baby tooth back. If a permanent tooth is out, hold it by the crown (not the root), keep it in milk or saliva and go to the dentist immediately.
